From miniature Taj Mahal replicas to take home as souvenirs,
to fine jewellery and the beautiful craftsmanship of Agra marble—shopping in
Agra is somewhat limited, but there are a few places you mustn't miss.
UNIQUE ARTS AND CRAFTS
Address: Unique Arts and Crafts, 18/162/H/C, Tourist Area
Complex, Fatehabad Road, Agra
A wholesale shop selling beautifully crafted collectibles,
this is the best place to visit for souvenirs to take back home. Although the
shop stocks the usual bric-a-brac (like miniatures of the Taj Mahal), you can
also sift through to find more unusual curios with the most intricate carvings,
mosaic and stone embellishments, and mirror work. The products here range all
the way from pocket-sized curios to garden furniture. The shop will ship the
larger pieces if required (at a cost).
SUBHASH EMPORIUM
Address: 18/1, Gwalior Rd, Shahzadi Mandi, Rakabganj, Agra
All the way back in the 60s, Subhash Emporium was the only
place where one could buy products made of Agra marble, and the venerable shop
is responsible for the revival of stone handicrafts. Although several stores
offer similar carved products today, this is still the preferred place to go,
especially for the pieces stocked in the emporium's private gallery. Despite
the relatively high prices, the high quality of marble and workmanship makes it
worth the splurge.
KINNARI BAZAR
A favourite with both locals as well as tourists, Kinari
Bazaar has a reputation for selling some of the finest jewellery in Agra. In
addition, it's also a good spot for bridal shopping, as it stocks everything
from apparel and jewellery to ceremonious bric-a-brac.
SADAR BAZAR
This is the best place for shopaholics, and probably one of
Agra's most popular shopping areas. In close proximity to the Taj Mahal and
Agra fort, Sadar Bazaar is a bustling marketplace that houses hundreds of tiny
shops selling everything from ethnic clothes and accessories to leather goods
and shoes.
